It may be perceived as hurting your eyes or not looking good but I don't think the studies really addressed that.  They addressed long term usage and what it does to the eyes.

Working in the technical industry for so long I can attest to their validity (I only wish I would have heeded them). :)</description>

		<description>Actually, everything I have read states that dark background and light text is easier on the eyes for long periods of time.

Those statements coming from the technical and artistic field.  There is a reason everything in the old days ran on "green screens" (black background, green text).
